The city of Karlovac is located in the heart of Croatia, where the lowland meets the highlands, and it is formed by the confluence of four rivers – Korana, Kupa, Mrežnica and Dobra. It has been built as an ideal star-shaped Renaissance city, with a central square and streets that intersect under a right angle, and as such it represents a valuable cultural heritage. July 13, 1579, was recorded as the date of the beginning of its construction, and this date is celebrated today as the birthday of the City of Karlovac. Today, Karlovac is an economic and administrative centre of the Karlovac County. Having more than 55,000 inhabitants, Karlovac is the 9th largest Croatian city.
